1일 8시간 근무가 아닐 땐 주휴수당 계산이 달라지나요?
The calculation of weekly holiday allowance (also known as 주휴수당 in Korean) can differ if the daily working hours are not 8 hours, especially for part-time employees or those with irregular daily hours. However, the core principle remains that the weekly holiday allowance is equivalent to one day's worth of ordinary wages.
Here's how it generally works:
- For full-time employees with consistent daily hours (e.g., 8 hours per day, 5 days a week): - The hourly wage is calculated first. For example, if the daily wage is 150,000 KRW for 8 hours, the hourly wage is 18,750 KRW (150,000 / 8).
- The weekly holiday allowance is then calculated as the hourly wage multiplied by the number of hours in a standard workday (typically 8 hours). So, 18,750 KRW * 8 hours = 150,000 KRW.

- For part-time employees or those with varying daily hours (less than 40 hours per week): - The calculation is based on the proportion of weekly working hours to the standard 40-hour workweek. The formula is generally: (Weekly working hours / 40 hours) * 8 hours * Hourly wage.
- For instance, if an employee works 17 hours per week in 2024 with a minimum hourly wage of 9,860 KRW: (17 hours / 40 hours) * 8 hours * 9,860 KRW = 33,524 KRW.

Key conditions for receiving weekly holiday allowance:
- The employee must work 15 hours or more per week.
- The employee must have worked all scheduled working days in that week (개근).
- The employee must be scheduled to work in the following week.
Therefore, while the allowance is always equivalent to one day's pay, the method to determine that 'one day's pay' can vary based on the employee's daily and weekly working hours.
